A Centennial Celebration

Laura Yvonne Jones Handy

April 28, 1924 – April 28, 2024

Beloved Daughter, Niece, Sister, Wife, Mother, Aunt, Grandmother, Great Grandmother & Good Friend

As I understand it, Laura was usually the life of any party. Here she was on her wedding night to Joseph Breckinridge Handy III in Medina, Ohio in September 1946.

This was just following the end of World War II, and my parents joined millions of other Americans who moved west to start their family. Joe was fresh out of serving in the Merchant Marines and looking to start his career in shipping management at one of the largest ports in the world – the Los Angeles Harbor.

They settled in Long Beach, California where I was welcomed in March 1948.

Laura was the glue in our family. Even as a kid, I noticed how all of our relatives, including her in-laws, loved seeing Mom when we arrived. She paid attention to – and made a real connection with – everyone.

All galleries are open and there are no lines at the moment. Please check them out.

Please also take a moment to post a few comments in the GUEST BOOK (How are you related to Laura? What did you like most about her? If you didn’t meet her, what have you heard about her that has impressed you the most?)

Your comments will mean the most to us. Thank you.
